Decameron Isla Coral rises six storeys over the beach at Rincón de Guayabitos, a village on the Riviera Nayarit coast whose gentle bay is known as one of the world's largest natural pools. From the rooms you look out to Coral Island, a patch of white sand and reef a mile and a quarter offshore.

There are 146 rooms in a modern building, finished in tropical wood. Most are Standard, 14 have ocean views and five have a balcony with a direct view of the sea. Rooms take a king bed or two queens, and Oceanfront rooms are built for two.

Costa Canua is the buffet, with Isla Coral in view through breakfast, lunch and dinner. Idolo Moro is the à la carte dinner room for international dishes and fresh seafood. Three bars handle the drinks.

The pool is shared by adults and children, with yoga and Zumba beside it and a game center open from 9 am to 6 pm. At night the main stage runs a different show, and traditional Mexican nights add local colour. Humpback whales pass the coast each year.

It suits families and couples who want a straightforward beach week on a quiet bay.
