All Ritmo sits on the road to Punta Sam on Cancún's north shore, with the marina, the lights of Isla Mujeres and the Caribbean in front of it. The look is red-roofed and 100% Mexican, and the centrepiece is the water park, built around the Tree House, a wooden tower with four waterfalls, slides and the giant water bucket.

Rooms start with a 38-square-metre Standard next to the park. Junior Suites face the ocean, with a balcony or terrace and a small living area, and there is a Junior Suite with a jacuzzi and a two-bedroom Master Suite over the garden that sleeps up to eight.

Dinner starts at El Palmar, the main buffet, which runs Italian, Mexican and Caribbean nights with the pool and sea in view. Pancho Villa serves traditional Mexican dishes, Góndola is the beachfront Italian with pasta and pizza, and Ostras is the gourmet seafood room for guests over 18, inspired by lighthouses. Diego's Bar by the pool, the Cúpulas cantina off the lobby and Oasis Bar in the water park keep the drinks close. The Oasis Snack Bar covers the hours between meals.

Days are for the slides, the Kids Club, mini golf, table tennis and the football, tennis and basketball courts. Evenings bring theme nights with superheroes, pirates and magicians, plus dinner shows in the air-conditioned theatre. A gym opens from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

It suits families with children who would rather stay put at the water park than leave it, and anyone who wants an all-inclusive on Cancún’s northern edge.
